With each of the ESO EAST - IRENE Newsletter, we will take a look at a different ESO EAST Country and bring testimonials of their Country Representatives.
This month, we focus on Moldova. Prof. Stanislav Groppa tells us of the upsides and potential challenges to the stroke care quality in Moldova, and adds the plans of Moldova going forward.
1. What is the main recent achievement in stroke care quality in Moldova?
In our opinion, the main achievement in stroke care in Moldova is the initiation of the National Program for fighting Stroke, aimed at decentralizing the national stroke service and at facilitating the access of stroke patients to modern treatment strategies.
2. Are there any obstacles that you are facing right now?
Unfortunately, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the hospitals treating stroke patients were transformed into primary COVID centers, henceforth slowing down the progress of the previously mentioned reform.
3. What are your plans for the future?
We aim to set up 10-12 Stroke Units across the country and a large comprehensive Stroke Center with telemedicine-based system, in order to implement the newly developed National Stroke Program.
